Schematic Design and Program Criteria for Future Phases

 

Phase 2 – School Office and Classroom Addition

 

General

Once construction of Phase 1 of the Fr. Quigley Faith Formation Center is underway, our Capital Campaign Appeal will resume for additional support to ensure that Phase 2 can begin immediately upon completion of Phase 1 construction.  Design plans will be developed for all Phase 2 improvements and can be advanced to construction document phase when funding becomes available.

 

Media Center

 

· 1 full time librarian - 2 part time aides

· No separate office – work at circulation desk

· No traffic through Media center to get between buildings

· Use of Media Center in evenings by students / adults as meeting space

· Would prefer to have exterior windows in Media Center

· Would like visibility / image of media from exterior south facade

· Book stacks and space at tables for one classroom of children (28)

· Visual control of computer room

 

Computer room

 

· Flexible space – laptop computers and carts, not fixed stations

· Does want to be a separate space w/ wall off of Media Center

· Needs door directly to media

· Adult use for satellite classes

· 28 kids (1 class) at a time

· Video projector / marker board – teaching wall for library instruction / research methods...

 

Administration

 

· Reception - 2 work spaces:

· Receptionist

· Secretary / accounting that watches reception if first is out. 

· Principal’s office

· Assistant Principal

· Conference room

· In open office area near reception – copier / fax for office staff only (teacher’s workroom in existing building) - space for one parent volunteer to help with office work

· Nurse area with cots / treatment

· Need public access restrooms – possible to share with Media Center

 

Kindergarten:

 

· When all day kindergarten begins we will need two extra kindergarten rooms – size on existing plans is right – allows for nap space

· 20 kids per room

· School is set up as three track – 1st grade has thee classrooms of 27 = 81 students

· Existing building has two kindergarten rooms therefore 80 total students if full day in each room.

· If not all Kindergartens are  full – one room in existing would become 3rd grade room or extra class.

 

Storage area - Large storage is for school/campus use

 

Maintenance area  (for entire campus)

 

· Moving staff out of boiler room in school into and on-grade situation

· Use for receiving / storage of supplies

· Storing equipment like buffers, cleaners, ladders

· Some space may need to be used for mechanical / electrical equipment for school addition

· Workstation for maintenance director – paperwork and computer

 

Current School and PC Classroom Renovations

 

· Remove temporary classroom in Cafeteria

· Replace cafeteria floor

· Update Kitchen layout/equipment

· Replace original building windows on middle and top level with new energy efficient unit and in-fill to reduce amount of glass

· Renovate several rooms in PC lower level due to change in use and traffic
